The last two evenings I have watched Randy Smith’s two part interview with the Univeristy of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s athletic director, Rick Hart. WRCB doesn’t have the video on their site, but Randy does have a blog entry regarding the issue. However, WRCB must need a lesson in blogging 101 because there is no permalink to the entry. Since there is no permalink to Randy Smith’s blog, I will publish it here:

We got a babysitter at 6 pm. Talk about cutting it close!
Before we took Fuller to the babysitter, we all milled around the First Tennessee Pavilion taking in all the fans (way more App State fans than UMass fans) and the Coca-Cola sponsored games. Pontiac (a big NCAA sponsor) was there with their car tour, where the emcee doted on our little boy and how cute he is. Then we had an opportunity to teach Fuller about giving by letting him give my bus fare to the Marines for Toys for Tots.
We had a really good time at the actual game. For one thing, my husband and a friend dressed up and had signs as a protest to the Bowl Championship Series. But beyond that fun, we really had a good time just being at the game, watching football, and staying mostly warm. (I didn’t have a coat, but used my gloves to keep my hands comfortable.) (more…)
Just a quick update to say that we need a babysitter so that I can attend tonight’s game. My husband is point man on that task and I am sure he will be successful in his ventures (we have a lot of great friends), so I am going to go ahead and declare that tonight I will be at the Championship game.
We plan on going to the pre-game activities with our son around 4 (when it starts) or 4:30. There is excitement in the air here in Chattanooga, with all the fans milling around downtown (I saw some of them this morning. Hey tourists: Greyfriar’s has way better coffee than Starbucks! It’s on Broad Street in the 4th street block!)
I am looking forward to a great game. Hope to see you there!
There are times when life gets in the way and you can get a kind of selfish tunnel vision that keeps you from knowing what else is happening in the world. If I had checked the paper or The Chattanoogan street closings, I would have known there was a parade today.
The parade of champions! An Army parachute team! Running around the field and throwing footballs.
I am bummed that I missed the fun at Finley Stadium this evening and it leaves me wondering if maybe the city hasn’t really done its part to get the word out. Of course the fine folks who organized this event should be really pleased that the game is sold out and that there will be plenty of people at the First Tennessee Pavilion tomorrow at noon to buy standing room only tickets. (Tickets are $20 each.)

I was just going to post a blurb about who will be playing in this Friday’s NCAA Div I AA Football Champsionship game, but then I saw this article and I got really excited. How awesome is it that the game is sold out?
A few years ago the city was kind of begging Chattanoogans to go to the game to prove to the NCAA that having the championship here is worth it. That year the company I work for (and others like it) bought many tickets to give to employees and other companies bought blocks of tickets to give away (we got some from a car dealership for test driving a car). It snowed that year, but it was still a lot of fun.
Last year having Appalachian State in the game really helped because they are so close and brought many fans. I am sure having them in the game again this year has also helped with the ticket sales.
Now the game is sold out and I feel incredibly fortunate to have two tickets. I am giving them to my husband and one of his friends, but still I have tickets. Do you?

Ever since Chattanooga scored the NCAA Division 1 Football Championship game, our family has tried to make it to the games just to support the cause. The game isn’t just about football but about boosting our city’s economy.
It helps that we like college football in general. It also helps that we usually score free tickets somehow. This year I won two tickets from work, so we plan on making an appearance. That is, if Big Foot doesn’t go.
If you watched the game last year, you may remember a certain segment during the broadcast where Big Foot and Santa Clause were in attendance. While they were enjoying a great game, Big Foot and Santa were also making a statement against the BCS and their messed up system of declaring a national champion. (In our house we call the winner of that game the “mythical champion.”)
Well, I know Big Foot personally and I have no idea if he plans on making an appearance again. But I do know that if he goes, I won’t because the other ticket we have will probably go to someone dressed as Santa Clause… and it won’t be me.
