Creative Discovery Museum hours change for Fall

Creative Discovery Museum
321 Chestnut Street
Chattanooga, TN 37402

We have really enjoyed the Creative Discovery Museum this past summer. It allowed for our son to have somewhere cool to go and lots of activity to keep him occupied. The bonus? It is so educational.

During the summer, the Creative Discovery extended its hours. It allowed for more visitors and family fun all summer long.

And now that Hamilton County Schools have gone back into session, CDM has reduced its hours again, until spring:

Creative Discovery Museum’s extended hours ended Sunday, August 12. We are now back to our regular hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. We will still be open Wednesdays until Labor Day, after which we will be closed Wednesdays until Spring.

The Creative Discovery Museum celebrates the Fourth with Red, White, and Blue Days, July 1st through 4th. Cool off in Chattanooga: the aquarium wading pools

I have a few favorite things I like to mention when I tell people about Chattanooga: free music, restaurants downtown, and free fun for the little ones.

This morning/ early afternoon my friend and I got to experience some of the best free fun for little ones in Chattanooga: the aquarium wading pools.
Wading pool

I don’t know if that is actually what they are called, but since they are only about a foot deep, you can’t exactly call them swimming pools.

Free movies at Hamilton Place Mall

I took Fuller to the free movies at Hamilton place mall today. It was the first day of the Regal Cinemas Family Film Festival.

The way it works is this: You go to the Hamilton Place Mall information desk a day or so before the movies and ask for tickets. They give you tickets to either the G or the PG movie. The movies start at 10 am and are shown on Tuesday and again on Wednesday. You go into the cinema, buy your popcorn (sorry, it isn’t free), and then go into the theater.

Chattanooga summer fun: day camps for Chattanooga’s kids

It is hard to believe that the last day of classes for Hamilton County Schools is next Tuesday. Lots of parents will be wondering what to do with their children, to keep their minds and bodies active during the warmest months of the year.

One summer my mom scheduled my sisters and me for lots of day camp sessions through the local parks and recreation. I took photography, drama, and tennis. My sisters did pottery.

Day camps keep kids busy, helps stretch their minds, and maybe lets them experience something that they don’t get during the school year. Or they are able to focus specifically on something they want to get better at before going back to school in August.

Chattanooga Market celebrates Hispanic Culture on May 6th

StrawberriesLast Sunday I had a great time visiting the Chattanooga Market. It was opening day and there was plenty to see, smell, and enjoy. Since it was a perfect Spring day, I rode my husband’s scooter there, giving me this romantic “Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday” feeling. When I got there and saw all the people, heard the music, smelled the kettle corn, and ate one chocolate covered strawberry, it made the perfect Sunday afternoon.

I bought some bread, some dog shampoo from Dogwood Farms, took a few pictures, and soaked up a great Chattanooga afternoon.

This Sunday, the Chattanooga Market will celebrate Hispanic culture with Latin dance demonstrations, salsa tasting, and the music of Danny Salazar y los Kuatro. John Palacio of Porters Steak House will be doing a demonstration, and there will be special activities for the kids- inflatables, Mexican Bingo at 1:30, 3:00 and 3:30, and Pinatas at 12:45, 1:45, 2:45, & 3:45.

Hope to see you there!

St. Elmo Easter Egg Hunt still on: other egg hunts in the area are too!

Our neighborhood is still having the Easter egg hunt tomorrow at noon. The weather is still supposed to be cold (the 40s), but the organizers have plans to keep the kids running around while the rest of us hide eggs.

If you plan on coming, they are asking families to provide 12 candy filled eggs to donate to the hunt. There will be a two egg hunts- one for toddlers and one for everyone else.

For those of you not in the St. Elmo area, the congregation of North River Vineyard Church is having an Easter egg hunt tomorrow at 11 at Coolidge park.

In the Red Bank area the White Oak United Methodist Church will host their egg hunt, starting at 11 am.

I am sure there are plenty of more hunts going on in the area and I have this to say: stay warm! Hunt quickly and keep that blood flowing. Happy Easter Chattanooga!
