Everyone must eat: Lunch in Chattanooga
In the early days of January, a common theme of mankind is the New Year’s Resolution. People make lists, some blog their lists, and every day they wake up trying to think of some way to keep that resolution on how to change their lives.
The number one resolution for most people is to lose weight. My resolution is to eat more… for this blog.
Ok, that sounds a little funny, but one of the fun aspects about any city is their contribution to the diet of the people who live there. Chattanooga is no exception and I want to share some of the restaurants that I go to, in case you want to check something out.
Here is a little tip for any traveler going to any city: When you go to a different city make a pledge to eat at restaurants that you do not have in your own hometown. This means no McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, or Pizza Hut. This is a rule that my husband I have for when we travel and it has served us well.
A couple of disclaimers:
1. I have no idea how to review restaurants.
2. When I was deciding what to do for lunch today, it was not with the idea that I would post about it later.
I work in downtown Chattanooga and I am blessed that there are so many restaurants that I can choose from on a daily basis. However, I don’t normally eat lunch away from my desk. In fact, most days I eat ramen noodles with some frozen veggies. But, when I have no ramen I venture away from my cubicle to some of the restaurants found on the side streets of downtown.
Today I went to the Chattanooga Bank Building, located on the corner of 8th and Broad, to eat at Mykonos Greek Grill. I blame my coworker for ordering from there and eating it at her desk. The smell of garlic and vinegar from her Gyros Greek Salad was rather appealing and that is what I wanted to eat.
Mykonos Greek Grill entrance is from 8th street. You order at the counter and wait, sitting on high stools if you want, or standing in front of the counter. If you want to eat in the building, you go to the hallway and sit at tables in front of the beautiful art deco elevator doors. I usually get my food to go.
The owner/ chef working the counter was very quick to take my order and fill it. She even offered to give me half regular dressing and half spicy, which I appreciated. The ratio of salad to meat was perfect, but maybe I had too much dressing. I also think she skimped on the pita bread (my co-worker had 4 pieces, I had 2) which I could have used to sop up some of the excess dressing.
For the $7 dollars, it was a very filling, very tasty meal. If you are downtown for lunch, I recommend Mykonos Greek Grill.
