Neidlov’s Sandwiches Invite Chattanoogans to Love their Lunch
A while back I visited Niedlov’s new space on Main Street. It was a great experience, wonderful bread, and a great atmosphere. And this afternoon my email box let me know that there is even more than bread and atmosphere at Niedlov’s the next time I visit. They have sandwiches!
From their press release:
Niedlov’s Sandwiches Invite Chattanoogans to Love Their Lunch
Niedlov’s Breadworks, Chattanooga’s favorite artisan bakery, announces the launch of lunch.
A sandwich should be more than what is squeezed between the pieces of bread, just like lunch should be more than a quick fix squeezed into your day.
Expanding the in-store offerings at its new location, Niedlov’s has added sandwiches to its menu of breakfast pastries, barista eggs, coffee and espresso - and the naturally leavened, organic, whole grain breads upon which the bakery has built its reputation.
Like every loaf that comes out of the bakery, Niedlov’s sandwiches are healthy and delicious. The sandwiches use only the highest quality clean lunch meats, free of hormones, antibiotics, and preservatives. Adding cheese, vegetables, and spreads made in house, the bakery’s owner John Sweet pairs each combination with the perfect bread.
“A sandwich should be more than what is squeezed between the pieces of bread, just like lunch should be more than a quick fix squeezed into your day,” said Sweet. “The right bread brings the whole sandwich together, creating a lunch that is nutritious and tasty, made to be enjoyed.”
Niedlov’s is starting its sandwich menu with four options that are widely varied enough to suit any palate. Two are made on a fresh French baguette: the Roast Beef is medium rare meat with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and homemade horseradish mayonnaise; the John’s Green Thumb is a vegetarian option, with house-roasted portabella mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, tomato, red onion and homemade olive tapenade.
Club Niedlov’s piles turkey, ham, bacon, swiss cheese and homemade olive tapenade onto stone ground whole wheat bread. The Chicken Salad sandwich features oven-roasted, hand pulled chicken, celery, cilantro, carrots and homemade mayonnaise, served with alfalfa sprouts and tomato on toasted ciabatta.

Lunch sandwiches are a logical next step in the evolution of the bakery. Niedlov’s began by wholesaling artisan bread to fine dining establishments in downtown Chattanooga, and soon afterward crafted a line of sandwich breads to be sold at Greenlife Grocery. As the breads grew in popularity, Niedlov’s opened a retail counter and, earlier this year, moved into its new space at 215 East Main Street.
“We built out our new location so that we would have plenty of room on the retail side,” said Sweet. “We want to invite people to stop for a moment in their busy days to enjoy the wonderful smells, flavors and human interaction that are part of the life of our bakery. After all, man shall not live by bread alone.”
