Chattanooga welcomes Harry Potter at Rock Point Books
Last night my husband and I got to share in the revelerie at Rock Point Books. Many Chattanoogans were there to get their hands on the last Harry Potter book at 12:01 a.m. We got there about 10 pm, enjoyed some muggle snacks, chatted with friends, and settled in to watch the action.
First there was the sorting hat, where a Rock Point Book employee divided the children into houses for the trivia game. They got to answer questions ranging from the color of Harry’s eyes to the three unforgivable curses. The house of Slytherin won, knowing most of the answers to the questions.
Later the costume contest got underway, with a Dementor walking away with the prize.
We finished the wait sitting on one of the benches that are scattered among the bookshelves, until we heard the announcement to line up in either the A-M line or the N-Z line. I had vouchers that would qualify me for both lines, but I picked the A-M. Then when the N-Z line had only two people left, I moved over there and got both my books (one for me, one for a friend).
The event was lovely, and I am glad I got to participate. Rock Point Books is a charming store, filled with lots of literature and a heart to become the place for books in the Chattanooga area. I like giving my support for an independent bookseller, and hope that they are here for many, many years.
I am into the eighth chapter of the book, so I better go get reading. More pictures of the fun can be found on flickr.
