St. Elmo Playground in the news: still seeking volunteers
I think I went to the playground site about five times yesterday. I would have been content to just sit on the sidelines and watch them build all day yesterday, but I have a two year old. Enough said.
On one of our trips over there we were greeted by a few cars labeled with local news logos. News Channel 9 was leaving and News Channel 3 was unloading. We got to speak with Lesley Dale and tell her how the community got together to plan this playground. From the early meeting with Learning Structures where the kids got to draw their playground wants to the tree house that is currently being built.
We were thrilled to see the story as the top story on the 5:30 news last night. Yes, that cute red head that wants a tree house is Fuller and that other cute red head labeled “parent,” that is me!
The Chattanooga Times Free Press has a story that is in today’s paper, highlighting the need for even more volunteers this weekend.
“We’re still looking for volunteers,” said Heidi Chapin, St. Elmo resident and playground coordinator.
Mrs. Chapin said the group has about 100 volunteers signed up. The goal is to have 200 people working on the playground on Saturday and Sunday. The park is scheduled to be completed Sunday, she said.
I know that if you show up to volunteer at any time during the day, they will not turn you away. All skill levels are appreciated. If you come on Saturday there is free childcare at the Rec Center for kids potty trained and up, so parents can help as much as they can.
See you on the playground!
