Crabtree Farms: Chattanooga’s Community Supported Agriculture
I was very surprised to get an informational email this week about organic produce in Chattanooga. I had no idea that we had a community garden and urban farm just minutes from my house.
Crabtree Farms is just that, and more. They are a community garden, an urban farm, an educational outlet, and an interesting place to visit here in Chattanooga.
Tomorrow they are holding an informational meeting about their food box program. For about $30 a week, Chattanoogans can get fresh, organic produce delivered to their door. Here is an example of what you could expect:
A Spring Box may include:
• Arugula (1/4#)
• Beets (1bunch)
• Kale (1 bunch)
• Head Lettuce (2 heads)
• Fennel (1 bulb)
• Radishes (1 bunch)
• Carrots (1 bunch)
• Rosemary (1bunch)
• Other crops available include: Celery, Spinach, Leaf Lettuce, multiple varieties Head Lettuce, Kohlrabi, hopefully! early Tomatoes, multiple varieties of Beets, multiple varieties of Radish
To learn more about the program visit Crabtree Farms tomorrow, at 1:30 pm. The directions are simple enough and the value is more than monetary- you get nutrition, quality, and are supporting the local economy and environment.
If you can’t get to the meeting or participate in Crabtree Farms’ food box program, then consider checking them out at the Lookout Market and the Chattanooga Market, beginning this spring.
