Stay warm in Chattanooga: Fire it Up!

It was a really warm day in Chattanooga today. My husband was able to work outside this evening without his jacket. I really wish the warm weather would stick around, but it looks like the weather predictions are not favoring my wishes right now.

Chattanooga and the surrounding area is an attraction to people who love to be outdoors. From hiking to hang gliding, there is always something to do outside. But with the recent cold, who wants to be outside? Not me!

Well, fortunately there is plenty to do inside as well. Here is a suggestion: go paint something.

Fire It Up! is a paint your own pottery place on Hixson Pike. They are located in Riverview at Classic Home for an inviting atmosphere.

The way the process works: you go in and pick your pottery piece you want to paint. This could be a small 4 inch by 4 inch tile or you could paint a full set of dinner plates.

You then get to pick your paints and brushes and spend as much time as you want to paint your piece. It is recommended that you paint the colors that are the lightest first, because darker paint will cover up anything lighter, when it is fired. When you are finished you turn the piece in and the studio will fire it for you in their kiln. It will be a few days later when you can return and pick up your finished piece of pottery.

My husband and I went to Fire It Up! when it was located on Frazier Avenue for our first date, February 7, 1998. We still have the pieces that we painted and they are used in our home with fond memories.

I hosted a bridesmaid luncheon at Fire It Up! for my sister’s wedding. We all painted tiles to be coasters for the bride and groom.

Paint your own pottery at Fire It Up!Fire It Up! was also where we celebrated my husband’s 30th birthday. We all had a blast creating something memorable- I painted a cookie jar, Damon did this plate (photoshopped to remove our address).

If you need to stay warm here in Chattanooga, painting your own pottery is a great way to do it.
